What an open seat really costs

What does an open seat cost you every week?

An open role costs you more than the recruiting fee. Someone covers the work, waits for care, or stops a service. We ask what is falling behind and who is carrying it. Use your own figures to compare the cost of waiting with the cost of hiring.

01

The seat is costing you every week.

Overtime, diverted patients, a stretched team and a schedule held together by favors.

02

The posting brought the wrong people.

Applicants arrive, but the person who has done this exact work is employed and not looking.

03

You are the one chasing.

Screening calls, no-shows and follow-ups land on the desk of someone with a facility to run.

The work behind the title

What does this hire really come down to?

Remote verification is not simply working through an order queue. The pharmacist reviews the inpatient chart in your EHR, follows local formulary and substitution guidance, documents the decision, and contacts hospital staff when an order needs clarification. You need clear boundaries for work handled remotely, work retained by on-site pharmacy staff, and overnight escalation.

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

Screen for hospital verification judgment, not remote work alone. We ask candidates which chart details they review before acting, how they interpret an incomplete order, and how they document an unresolved item. A useful answer describes a sequence of checks, not a claim that they are careful.

Remote status changes the communication route, not the pharmacist’s responsibility. During a night shift, the pharmacist may review a new order, identify a question, update its status, and contact pharmacy, nursing, or medical staff.

We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Credentialing, licensing and malpractice coverage are confirmed per engagement before anyone starts.

Screening

What do we check before you see anyone?

Confirm active pharmacist licenses for every state in which your role calls for practice authority. We ask which licenses are active, pending renewal, or no longer used. You confirm applicable state authority and complete your own credentialing review. Review hospital order-verification experience in your EHR, rather than general electronic-record use.

  • We ask which screens the pharmacist used for orders, allergies, laboratory results, medication history, order status, and routing messages. We also ask how they learned local workflow rules.
  • Discuss overnight availability against your actual schedule. A pharmacist who accepts nights may still have limits around weekends, holidays, consecutive shifts, or handoff times. We clarify those details before interviews so a schedule conflict does not surface after selection.
  • Explore formulary and automatic-substitution work under local policy. We ask what the pharmacist reviewed before applying an approved conversion and when they sought clarification. This separates policy-based decisions from assumptions learned at another hospital.
  • Ask how the pharmacist handles recurring clinical alerts during an extended shift. Strong answers explain what leads them back to the chart, what they record, and whom they contact. They should not treat every alert as either meaningless or urgent.
  • Review what happens when an order cannot move forward. We ask how the pharmacist would respond if nursing needs an update, the prescriber is unavailable, and on-site pharmacy is handling other work. You can compare the answer with your contact list and escalation sequence.
Sourcing

Where do we find them, and why would they move?

We recruit hospital pharmacists working remotely and pharmacists from telepharmacy services. Their backgrounds may include centralized overnight verification, remote support across hospital sites, and communication with pharmacy, nursing, and medical staff. We screen for stated licenses, hospital order work, EHR exposure, and availability.

People move into remote verification for different reasons. Some want hospital order review without a commute. Others seek recurring night work, a narrower verification scope, or less involvement in on-site distribution work. We ask why they are considering a move because schedule and work-boundary preferences affect the match.

Avoid these

Which mistakes stall the search?

A common mistake is treating retail verification as proof of hospital order-entry readiness. Ask about inpatient charts, order queues, local formulary rules, and communication with hospital staff. Another is waiting until late interviews to discuss recurring nights, weekends, holidays, or multistate licenses. A strong candidate may not have the authority or availability your schedule needs.

03

Giving EHR access without defining the work boundary. Login access does not establish who receives escalations, which orders remain on-site, or how open work reaches the next pharmacist.

Role-specific search plan

How would we run the search for this opening?

Tell us which order types the remote pharmacist reviews, what stays with on-site staff, and who receives escalations. We present pharmacists whose stated licenses, hospital verification background, EHR experience, and availability align with your brief. After selection, confirm practice authority, credentialing, EHR access, communication contacts, formulary guidance, and escalation procedures before the first shift.

01

Define the verification boundary

Include overnight, weekend, and handoff expectations so we screen against the actual work.

02

Interview against your workflow

You assess clinical judgment and department fit, then complete credentialing and your own clinical assessment.

03

Confirm access and orientation

We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Per diem placement means placement into your own pool.

Questions

What should we assess during an interview?

Ask the pharmacist to describe a hypothetical unclear hospital order, a meaningful alert, and an unanswered prescriber message. If appropriate, show a hypothetical workflow in your EHR and ask how they would use your escalation path. We ask how they handle an unanswered message, record the issue for handoff, and distinguish a routine question from one needing prompt escalation.

Do remote order-entry pharmacists need licenses in every state we cover?

They need active authority where your role and applicable state rules call for it. We screen multistate license history, while you confirm authority for your facilities and complete credentialing.

How closely should candidates know our EHR?

Direct experience in your EHR may reduce orientation work, especially when order routing differs among hospitals. We ask about actual order-review screens and workflow, then you decide what local training the role needs.

Can we hire for overnight verification only?

Yes, if the role is built around overnight coverage and the pharmacist’s availability matches it. We ask about recurring nights, weekend rotation, holiday work, handoff timing, and schedule limits before presentation.

How are fees handled for this search?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

How long will it take to see a short list?

That depends on the job, schedule, available people, and what your employer can offer. We discuss those constraints before outreach and update you as candidates respond. We do not promise a fixed shortlist date. We check the job brief before arranging interviews. Tell us which parts of the role you can change.

What if a candidate receives a counteroffer?

We ask why the person wants to move and discuss competing decisions before an offer. A counteroffer can still change their choice. Keep the duties and offer clear rather than assuming more money settles every concern. Tell us early if parts of your offer cannot change, so the candidate hears it from us first.

What are the replacement terms?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement. Ask us to walk through those terms before you sign, so you know how a replacement would work for your opening and who would start it.

What do we not do in a standard permanent search?

We do not bill standard contingency search by the hour or simply repost your job. Temporary coverage is a separate arrangement. Any retainer or different engagement must be agreed, not assumed. Tell us early if you need coverage while the permanent search runs.
