Cost-of-vacancy calculator
Healthcare Headhunters recruits healthcare professionals for employers. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.
This is what we do all day: recruit healthcare professionals.
Every number is yours. We do the arithmetic and show the formula. Results show on screen with no email. Your inputs stay in your browser until you ask for a report.
All math runs in your browser using published BLS figures and the numbers you type. Nothing is sent until you request a report. Method: methodology. BLS OEWS May 2025.
Which vacancy costs should you put into this calculation?
Healthcare Headhunters calculates vacancy cost from the figures you enter. There are no default industry losses or assumed agency rates. Start with the seat and the time it has been open. Then add the actual cover costs and lost value that your employer can reasonably identify.
Avoid counting the same cover spending twice. If agency or locum spending is already in the cover field, do not also include it as lost value. The itemized healthcare fields describe slots or beds you cannot use and the revenue you enter for them. Your own records should support those inputs.
The salary subtraction is on by default because an empty seat may mean wages you are not currently paying. You can change that assumption if your circumstances differ. The formula shows the subtraction, so you can see how it affects the weekly total rather than accepting a hidden adjustment.
The expected-weeks input is your planning assumption. The resulting total is arithmetic on that input, not a recruiter’s forecast of a start date. A hiring approval, notice period, license, or privileges may affect the actual start. This tool does not estimate those delays for you.
If you enter a recruiting fee percentage, the fee comparison uses the salary and percentage you supplied. It is not our quoted fee. The signed recruiting agreement sets our actual terms. A calculation from your inputs cannot create an agreement or change an existing contract.
A zero or negative weekly result is shown plainly. The tool does not raise the result to make a search look worthwhile. You can review your assumptions and decide whether they describe the vacancy correctly. A difficult hire is not evidence that every empty seat creates the same financial loss.
Does the calculator add an assumed hospital benchmark?
No. Cover costs and lost value are your inputs. A salary prefill, if chosen, identifies the BLS source. All other spending assumptions remain yours.
Is the expected total a promised search result?
No. It applies your expected weeks to your weekly calculation. We do not infer when a person will accept or begin work from those inputs.
