What does an open seat cost you every week?
An open role costs you more than the recruiting fee. Someone covers the work, waits for care, or stops a service. We ask what is falling behind and who is carrying it. Use your own figures to compare the cost of waiting with the cost of hiring.
The seat is costing you every week.
Overtime, diverted patients, a stretched team and a schedule held together by favors.
The posting brought the wrong people.
Applicants arrive, but the person who has done this exact work is employed and not looking.
You are the one chasing.
Screening calls, no-shows and follow-ups land on the desk of someone with a facility to run.
What does this hire really come down to?
A Staff Pharmacist or Outpatient Pharmacist does more than review orders. During a shift, this person checks prescriptions, resolves clarification issues, oversees technicians, administers services within your scope, and explains medications to patients. We help you define which of those duties creates pressure at your location before we approach candidates.
A pharmacist who worked in a slower store may be qualified yet poorly matched to your dispensing rhythm. We ask what prescription volume they verified, how work arrived during the day, and what they did when a queue built while patients waited. Their answer should show sound checking habits, not simply speed.
The role also differs from a technician-led dispensing operation. The pharmacist remains responsible for final verification and supervision while deciding when to step into a patient consultation, resolve an insurance-related delay, or redirect technician work. We ask for examples of those decisions and how the candidate communicated them.
We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Credentialing, licensing and malpractice coverage are confirmed per engagement before anyone starts.
What do we check before you see anyone?
We screen for a PharmD from an accredited program and a current state pharmacy license. You complete your own credentialing and review any board information relevant to your hiring decision before an offer. We ask about immunization certification and the services the pharmacist has personally provided.
- Certification may be relevant when your pharmacy offers vaccinations, but its use depends on state rules and your own service scope.
- We ask for concrete verification volume and workflow details. That includes central-fill support, automated filling equipment, paper versus electronic intake, transfer volume, and whether the pharmacist regularly covered more than one work area.
- We explore technician supervision through shift-level questions. Who handled data entry, filling, inventory calls, and pickup issues? When did the pharmacist intervene, retrain someone, or stop a task for review?
- We discuss the pharmacy management system and related tools without treating one platform as a substitute for judgment. A candidate can learn an interface, but we ask how they used alerts, image verification, refill queues, and documentation within a prior workflow.
- We test patient communication with specific scenarios. For example, if a patient disputed a wait time or had questions after receiving a new prescription, how did the pharmacist explain the next step while keeping the verification area controlled?
Where do we find them, and why would they move?
We recruit from chain and independent pharmacies, outpatient hospital pharmacies, and PharmD programs. Each source pool can suit a different opening. Chain experience may fit a store with frequent vaccinations and steady pickup traffic. Independent pharmacy experience may fit a role with closer prescriber and patient contact.
New PharmD graduates can be worth considering when your team can provide structured onboarding. People may consider a move for schedule changes, a different patient mix, ownership changes, commuting concerns, or a clearer supervisory role.
Which mistakes stall the search?
A common mistake is selecting on years in pharmacy alone without asking what the pharmacist verified, supervised, and resolved during a typical shift. Another is treating immunization certification as a blanket legal condition instead of confirming the services your pharmacy offers and the applicable state scope.
Waiting until final interviews to explain weekend rotation, float expectations, staffing pattern, prescription volume, and whether the pharmacist works alone at times.
How would we run the search for this opening?
Tell us the schedule, expected verification volume, technician coverage, vaccination activity, software, physical setup, and the decisions that pull the pharmacist away from verification. We present pharmacists whose work history matches the role discussion. We help manage interview follow-up and offer communication.

We turn that information into direct screening questions.

How do you distinguish a retail pharmacist from an outpatient hospital pharmacist?
Retail pharmacists often have more exposure to pickup traffic, technician supervision, and store-based service flow. Outpatient hospital pharmacists may bring discharge medication and clinical review experience, but you should assess their comfort with your counter and dispensing pace. Outpatient hospital pharmacists can bring strong discharge and medication-review experience, though retail counter flow may be newer to them.
Can you recruit a Staff Pharmacist who also administers vaccinations?
Yes: we ask whether the candidate holds immunization certification and what vaccination work they have performed. You should tell us whether vaccinations are routine, seasonal, appointment-based, or occasional at your pharmacy.
What should we share before interviews begin?
Share the state license needed, schedule, float expectations, verification workload, technician support, software, and services offered. Also explain whether the pharmacist will be the only pharmacist present during any part of a shift.
How do you assess whether a pharmacist may stay after receiving a counteroffer?
We ask why the person began considering a change before an offer is made. If a counteroffer appears, revisit the schedule, management, commute, work mix, and career reasons discussed rather than assuming pay is the only issue.
Can you help with contract or per diem coverage?
We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Credentialing, licensing and malpractice coverage are confirmed per engagement before anyone starts.
What should you send us about this role?
Send us the role, where the person will work and what needs to change with this hire. We will ask about the work, not just the title. Share any license or schedule limits that could rule someone out before we begin the search.
Tell us what happens when prescription volume rises, a vaccination appointment arrives, and a patient needs the pharmacist. We will screen for candidates who have made those shift decisions before.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you get at each step of the search?

Search Calibration
You get an agreed brief: the work, reporting line, credentials, schedule, and offer you can make.
Market Mapping
You get a search aimed at relevant backgrounds, including people working now who have not applied.
Professional Contact Intelligence
We check appropriate ways to reach the people identified for your search. You do not have to chase them yourself.
Persistent Personalized Outreach
We explain your actual job and follow up with people who may consider a conversation.
Live Candidate Qualification
You see people we have spoken with about the work, interest, and practical fit, not an unread resume pile.
Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a written brief and support through interviews and offer discussions. You make the hiring decision.
How long will it take to see a short list?
That depends on the job, schedule, available people, and what your employer can offer. We discuss those constraints before outreach and update you as candidates respond. We do not promise a fixed shortlist date. We check the job brief before arranging interviews. Tell us which parts of the role you can change.
What are the replacement terms?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement. Ask us to walk through those terms before you sign, so you know how a replacement would work for your opening and who would start it.
What do we not do in a standard permanent search?
We do not bill standard contingency search by the hour or simply repost your job. Temporary coverage is a separate arrangement. Any retainer or different engagement must be agreed, not assumed. Tell us early if you need coverage while the permanent search runs.
