What does an open seat cost you every week?
An open role costs you more than the recruiting fee. Someone covers the work, waits for care, or stops a service. We ask what is falling behind and who is carrying it. Use your own figures to compare the cost of waiting with the cost of hiring.
The seat is costing you every week.
Overtime, diverted patients, a stretched team and a schedule held together by favors.
The posting brought the wrong people.
Applicants arrive, but the person who has done this exact work is employed and not looking.
You are the one chasing.
Screening calls, no-shows and follow-ups land on the desk of someone with a facility to run.
What does this hire really come down to?
Your health office may receive a scheduled medication visit, an injured student, and a parent’s question within minutes. We look for nurses who can explain how they handle competing needs without losing track of documentation. The search starts with your student ages, campus arrangement, nursing coverage, and expected responsibilities.
A nurse may review a health plan, check medication authorization, contact a family, and brief designated staff during one morning. Ask candidates how they distinguish matters they can address independently from situations needing escalation under your school’s procedures.
The strongest hospital résumé is not automatically the strongest school match. We ask for examples of independent judgment, clear handoffs, and boundaries around confidential information, rather than accepting general claims about working well with children.
We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Credentialing, licensing and malpractice coverage are confirmed per engagement before anyone starts.
What do we check before you see anyone?
License and assignment fit: What nursing license do you hold, and where is it active? We screen license status and relevant experience. You confirm whether the assignment needs an RN, additional school credentials, or other qualifications under applicable state and school rules.
- Student assessment: If a student returns repeatedly with the same complaint, what information would you gather and document? A useful answer describes assessment, previous visits, family contact, escalation, and communication without dismissing symptoms or assuming the cause.
- Medication handling: How would you respond if a medication arrived with incomplete authorization or conflicting instructions? Listen for checking orders, securing medication, seeking clarification, and documenting the issue. Candidates should not describe improvising around missing documentation.
- Individual health plans: What have you contributed to plans for students with ongoing health needs? Look for specific involvement in reviewing orders, communicating with families, preparing staff within their assigned duties, and updating records when circumstances change.
- Urgent events: If a student needed immediate attention while others waited outside the office, how would you organize the response? Useful answers identify available help, school emergency procedures, student supervision, communication, and documentation after the immediate event.
- Confidential communication: What would you tell a teacher asking why a student visits the health office frequently? Look for a distinction between information needed for student support and private health details. Ask how the nurse records communications and handles parent questions.
Where do we find them, and why would they move?
We consider nurses from school districts, private schools, pediatric outpatient practices, community health programs, and pediatric hospital services. Previous school work can show familiarity with attendance-related questions and educational teams. Other backgrounds may bring relevant assessment skills, but we examine how those skills translate to independent campus practice.
A nurse might seek school work for continuity with students, a different schedule, or a move from episodic care. We discuss your actual calendar, compensation structure, documentation duties, and coverage expectations. School breaks do not necessarily mean time off, and we avoid presenting the position that way.
Which mistakes stall the search?
Do not treat pediatric experience as proof of school readiness. Ask how the candidate would manage an office alone, involve administrators, and communicate an unresolved concern before leaving campus. Do not leave campus travel unclear. If one nurse serves multiple buildings, describe travel, available support, and who responds when the nurse is elsewhere before interviews begin.
Do not combine nursing and unrelated office work without discussing boundaries. Explain any attendance, administrative, or student supervision tasks so candidates can assess the assignment accurately.
How would we run the search for this opening?
Tell us the student age range, building coverage, reporting line, and health office support. We screen credentials, work history, and fit through concrete school scenarios. Clarify the work calendar, daily hours, meetings, field trips, and absence coverage. Identify recurring procedures, medication responsibilities, record systems, and participation in student planning meetings.
Define the campus assignment
We use those details to separate essential experience from skills you can support through orientation.
Examine practical evidence
You receive candidates whose experience connects to the assignment. Your team completes its own credentialing and clinical assessment, including any practical review appropriate to the duties.
Set expectations before hiring
Discuss orientation to emergency procedures and student records. No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

Must our school nurse already have a school nursing certificate?
That depends on the jurisdiction and assignment. We check applicable qualifications with you; a preferred certificate should not be presented as universally mandatory. School nursing combines individual assessment with ongoing student support. Your nurse may work without another clinician nearby and must explain decisions to educators and families.
Should we consider a pediatric nurse without school experience?
Yes, if the assessment background fits your students. Test independent decisions, educator communication, and medication documentation rather than relying on the pediatric label.
How should we describe coverage across several campuses?
State travel expectations and the support available at each building. Candidates need to know how urgent student needs are handled during their absence.
What should we ask about field trips?
Ask about reviewing student needs and communicating plans before departure. Clarify whether accompanying trips is part of this position.
How can we assess communication with families?
Ask candidates to explain an unresolved concern without offering unsupported reassurance. Look for clear next steps, documented contact, and respectful handling of disagreement.
What should you send us about this role?
Send us the role, where the person will work and what needs to change with this hire. We will ask about the work, not just the title. Share any license or schedule limits that could rule someone out before we begin the search.
Tell us how your school health office operates and where coverage falls short. We can help you define the assignment and interview school nurse candidates against its actual duties.
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What do you get at each step of the search?
Our process for every search: calibrate the seat with you, map the market, research the real people, reach out to each one personally, qualify them in live conversation, then hand you a short list with a written brief on each person and support through the offer.
Search Calibration
You get an agreed brief: the work, reporting line, credentials, schedule, and offer you can make.
Market Mapping
You get a search aimed at relevant backgrounds, including people working now who have not applied.
Professional Contact Intelligence
We check appropriate ways to reach the people identified for your search. You do not have to chase them yourself.
Persistent Personalized Outreach
We explain your actual job and follow up with people who may consider a conversation.
Live Candidate Qualification
You see people we have spoken with about the work, interest, and practical fit, not an unread resume pile.
Candidate Intelligence and Process Support
You get a written brief and support through interviews and offer discussions. You make the hiring decision.
How long will it take to see a short list?
That depends on the job, schedule, available people, and what your employer can offer. We discuss those constraints before outreach and update you as candidates respond. We do not promise a fixed shortlist date. We check the job brief before arranging interviews. Tell us which parts of the role you can change.
What if a candidate receives a counteroffer?
We ask why the person wants to move and discuss competing decisions before an offer. A counteroffer can still change their choice. Keep the duties and offer clear rather than assuming more money settles every concern. Tell us early if parts of your offer cannot change, so the candidate hears it from us first.
What are the replacement terms?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement. Ask us to walk through those terms before you sign, so you know how a replacement would work for your opening and who would start it.
What do we not do in a standard permanent search?
We do not bill standard contingency search by the hour or simply repost your job. Temporary coverage is a separate arrangement. Any retainer or different engagement must be agreed, not assumed. Tell us early if you need coverage while the permanent search runs.
