What kind of leader do value-based care, MSO, and primary care platform employers need?

You need someone who can work across physicians, operations, revenue cycle, and quality. The job is less about supervising every visit. It is about daily calls on panel results, coding, documentation, and clinic flow. We ask who they answer to, who they influence, and where the physician-owner keeps authority.

On a workday, that person may review dashboards, meet with site leaders, follow up on missing documentation, and settle disputes between central staff and local practices. We look for leaders who can keep independent groups involved while shared services run the same way at each site.

How do we search for physician leaders and practice operators in these settings?

We start with the work, not the title. We ask what must change, which groups the hire must influence, and which decisions belong to the owner, medical director, or operations team. That keeps the search tied to the clinic day, not a generic executive profile.

Then we speak with people in primary care platforms, MSOs, risk-bearing medical groups, and ambulatory networks. We look for leaders who already handle shared services, clinic integration, payer work, and physician-owner conversations. We also ask them to explain a recent change in plain terms.

What experience matters most for value-based care and risk contracts?

The strongest candidates know how panel results, HCC capture, and open quality gaps show up in daily work. They can talk through chart review, provider coaching, documentation follow-up, and scorecard review without drifting into theory. We want proof they have worked inside risk contracts, not only read about them.

For physician and operator roles, we also ask about payer conversations, site-level reporting, and what happens after poor results appear. A good hire can tell you who pulls the report, who meets with clinicians, and who owns the next step. That clarity matters in every interview.

What does the workday look like for these hires?

A typical day may include review of performance reports, meetings with physicians, follow-up on coding questions, and calls about clinic changes. The person may work across several locations and spend part of the day in spreadsheets, part in meetings, and part resolving issues between central leadership and local teams.

We ask candidates to walk through a real day from start to finish. We want to know what they handled themselves, what they escalated, and what they delegated. That tells us whether they fit a seat that depends on judgment, follow-through, and steady communication.

Which roles do we recruit in this setting?

We recruit physicians, physician executives, medical directors, practice leaders, operations leaders, revenue cycle leaders, quality leaders, and population health leaders. We also recruit people tied to coding, risk adjustment, payer work, and clinic administration when those seats affect the same delivery model.

If the opening sits inside an MSO, a primary care platform, or a physician-owned group, we still look at the same practical issues. We ask how the person worked with independent practices, how they handled reporting, and how they kept daily operations moving across sites.

How do we keep the search aligned with physician-owner decision making?

In these searches, the owner may keep clinical authority while central teams handle operations, reporting, and shared services. We ask where the hire can decide alone, where they need sign-off, and where they need trust from physicians. That prevents a mismatch between the role and the way the business actually runs.

We also cover schedule limits, required credentials, site travel, and reporting lines before we start. That helps you interview people who can do the work in your setting. We keep the conversation concrete, because influence and accountability matter more than a polished title.

What else should you ask about this search?

How do you screen for leaders who can work with physician-owners?

We ask for examples of disagreement, not just success. We want to hear how the person brought a physician group into a shared process without shutting down local input. That tells you whether they can work in a model where authority is split.

What should we send before starting a search?

Send the role, the site structure, and the reporting line. Tell us which problems the hire must solve first, and which decisions stay with the owner or central office. We also need any schedule, travel, or credential limits that could narrow the field.

Can you recruit for a role that mixes operations and quality work?

Yes, that mix is common in value-based care, MSOs, and primary care platforms. We look for people who can read reports, speak with clinicians, and turn findings into clinic-level action without losing sight of the business side.

Do you recruit temporary coverage if a platform needs short-term help?

We arrange locum tenens, travel and contract coverage on request. Credentialing, licensing and malpractice coverage are confirmed per engagement before anyone starts. For permanent direct hire work, we recruit on contingency.

What are the fee and payment terms?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The signed agreement sets the fee and when it is due, along with the placement terms. We agree those terms before the search starts and before any candidate introductions. Temporary or contract coverage is a separate arrangement.

How long will it take to see a short list?

That depends on the job, schedule, available people, and what your employer can offer. We discuss those constraints before outreach and update you as candidates respond. We do not promise a fixed shortlist date. We check the job brief before arranging interviews. Tell us which parts of the role you can change.

What if a candidate receives a counteroffer?

We ask why the person wants to move and discuss competing decisions before an offer. A counteroffer can still change their choice. Keep the duties and offer clear rather than assuming more money settles every concern. Tell us early if parts of your offer cannot change, so the candidate hears it from us first.

What are the replacement terms?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement. Ask us to walk through those terms before you sign, so you know how a replacement would work for your opening and who would start it.

What do we not do in a standard permanent search?

We do not bill standard contingency search by the hour or simply repost your job. Temporary coverage is a separate arrangement. Any retainer or different engagement must be agreed, not assumed. Tell us early if you need coverage while the permanent search runs.
